Moving into a new home should be exciting, but let’s be honest - it often feels overwhelming instead. The way you prepare before moving will make all the difference. With a few simple strategies, you can cut the chaos, save time, and settle in with ease.
Here are six of my favorite hacks to make your next move smoother and a lot less stressful.
Sort through closets, drawers, and storage before boxing things up - donate, sell, or recycle what you no longer need. Why pay to move things you don’t even want?
It’s tempting to toss everything from one room into boxes together, but grouping them by category (all books, all linens, all kid’s toys) makes unpacking and organizing far easier.
Grab some colored duct tape from the dollar store and assign a different color to each room. Label a simple “key” so movers know exactly where everything belongs. Number the boxes (1 of 10 kitchen).
Keep your clothes hangers and slide a trash bag over each section. The hangers stay at the top, making it easy to move everything from one closet to the next.
Pack a box of essentials you’ll need right away: toiletries, toilet paper, bedding, chargers, coffee supplies, and a few days of clothing. This saves you from digging through boxes your first night.
With everything being so expensive these days, renting boxes is often just as cost-effective. The best part(s)? You don’t have to build them, break them down, or deal with a mountain of empty boxes at the end.
